We are delighted to announce our inaugural workshops series, to be hosted at the QUT Kelvin Grove precinct in April. These workshops represent an exciting opportunity for the design and broader community to engage with the historic process of letterpress printing, facilitated by industry design educator Clint Harvey.

Each workshop in our series promises an immersive experience into the fascinating world of typography, allowing participants to engage with historic printing presses and learn the intricate techniques of traditional typesetting. Whether you’re a seasoned designer seeking to expand your skillset or a curious newcomer eager to discover the magic of letterpress, there’s a workshop tailored just for you. Embrace the opportunity to delve into this centuries-old craft and unleash your creativity in an environment rich with heritage and innovation.

Introduction to Wood Type & Letterpress Printing
Sarturday 13th of April 2024, or Friday 26th April 2024, 10 AM–4 PM

Explore the art of wood type and letterpress printing in this hands-on workshop with design educator Clint Harvey. This workshop is a great introduction to setting and printing wood type, you will get have the opportunity to print from these 100 year old type blocks, use a pica rule and a compose a typographic forme, mix ink, and operate a historic press. Set, proof and print multiple copies of a short typographic composition.

Explore letterpress poster printing in this hands-on workshop with design educator Clint Harvey. This workshop will see you produce a two-colour Letterpress poster using wood type and metal type, and historic letterpress cuts from the SPAM collection. Learn how to compose a letterpress poster, lead, space, use a pica rule and a composing forme, mix ink, and operate a proof press. Set, proof and print a short edition of your two-colour poster.
